Your Event Makes an Impact

When you host an event at CecilVenues, you're doing more than renting a space. You're helping support community programs and creating meaningful employment opportunities for young people in Toronto.

How Your Booking Supports the Community

CecilVenues is the social enterprise and event-rental operation of Cecil Community Centre, a nonprofit organization serving the Kensington-Chinatown community and beyond.

100% profit goes back into Cecil Community Centre programs.

This funding helps the Centre provide free and low-cost programs and services for local children and families, including affordable childcare and children’s programming.

When you choose CecilVenues, the money you spend on your event stays in the community.

Creating Opportunities Through Employment

CecilVenues also creates meaningful employment opportunities for young adults who face barriers to employment.

Our event crew earn $25 per hour, above Ontario’s minimum wage, while gaining hands-on experience supporting weddings, markets, conferences and other events.

For some crew members, this also provides an opportunity to build valuable Canadian work experience after previously working in other countries.

Impact in Action

We also provide mentorship, support, and whenever possible, subsidize training for crew members who want to build their skills and move toward other work goals.

That has included helping to fund:

  • Personal Support Worker training for a crew member who has since gone on to work as a PSW
  • Mixology training for crew members interested in developing hospitality skills
  • Audiovisual training to help a crew member build technical skills and employment opportunities

These investments help turn event work into experience that can open doors to future opportunities.
